Cohomologie relative des applications polynomiales
2001
Let F be a polynomial dominating mapping from Cn to Cq with n>q. We study the de Rham cohomology of the fibres of F, and its relative cohomology groups. Let us fix a strictly positive weighted homogeneous degree on C[x1,…,xn]. With the leading terms of the coordinate functions of F, we construct a fibre of F that is said to be “at infinity”. We introduce the cohomology groups of F at infinity. These groups, denoted by Hk(F−1(∞)), enable us to study all the other cohomology groups of F. For instance, if the fibre at infinity has an isolated singularity at the origin, we prove that any quasi-homogeneous basis of Hn−q(F−1(∞)) provides a basis of all groups Hn−q(F−1(y)), as well as a basis of t…
Double point curves for corank 2 map germs from C2 to C3
2012
Abstract We characterize finite determinacy of map germs f : ( C 2 , 0 ) → ( C 3 , 0 ) in terms of the Milnor number μ ( D ( f ) ) of the double point curve D ( f ) in ( C 2 , 0 ) and we provide an explicit description of the double point scheme in terms of elementary symmetric functions. Also we prove that the Whitney equisingularity of 1-parameter families of map germs f t : ( C 2 , 0 ) → ( C 3 , 0 ) is equivalent to the constancy of both μ ( D ( f t ) ) and μ ( f t ( C 2 ) ∩ H ) with respect to t , where H ⊂ C 3 is a generic plane.
Multiplicity of Boardman strata and deformations of map germs
1998
AbstractWe define algebraically for each map germ f:Kn,0→Kp, 0 and for each Boardman symbol i=(i1,…,ik) a number ci(f) which is -invariant. If f is finitely determined, this number is the generalization of the Milnor number of f when p = 1, the number of cusps of f when n = p = 2, or the number of cross caps when n = 2, p = 3. We study some properties of this number and prove that, in some particular cases, this number can be interpreted geometrically as the number of Σi points that appear in a generic deformation of f. In the last part, we compute this number in the case that the map germ is a projection and give some applications to catastrophe map germs.
Mond's conjecture for maps between curves
2017
A theorem by D. Mond shows that if f:(C,0)→C2,0 is finite and has has degree one onto its image (Y, 0), then the Ae-codimension is less than or equal to the image Milnor number μI(f), with equality if and only if (Y, 0) is weighted homogeneous. Here we generalize this result to the case of a map germ f:(X,0)→C2,0, where (X, 0) is a plane curve singularity.
The Topology of the Milnor Fibration
2020
The fibration theorem for analytic maps near a critical point published by John Milnor in 1968 is a cornerstone in singularity theory. It has opened several research fields and given rise to a vast literature. We review in this work some of the foundational results about this subject, and give proofs of several basic “folklore theorems” which either are not in the literature, or are difficult to find. Examples of these are that if two holomorphic map-germs are isomorphic, then their Milnor fibrations are equivalent, or that the Milnor number of a complex isolated hypersurface or complete intersection singularity \((X, \underline {0})\) does not depend on the choice of functions that define …
Milnor Number Equals Tjurina Number for Functions on Space Curves
2001
The equality of the Milnor number and Tjurina number for functions on space curve singularities, as conjectured recently by V. Goryunov, is proved. As a consequence, the discriminant in such a situation is a free divisor.
The Image Milnor Number And Excellent Unfoldings
2021
Abstract We show three basic properties of the image Milnor number µI(f) of a germ $f\colon(\mathbb{C}^{n},S)\rightarrow(\mathbb{C}^{n+1},0)$ with isolated instability. First, we show the conservation of the image Milnor number, from which one can deduce the upper semi-continuity and the topological invariance for families. Second, we prove the weak Mond’s conjecture, which states that µI(f) = 0 if and only if f is stable. Finally, we show a conjecture by Houston that any family $f_t\colon(\mathbb{C}^{n},S)\rightarrow(\mathbb{C}^{n+1},0)$ with $\mu_I(\,f_t)$ constant is excellent in Gaffney’s sense. For technical reasons, in the last two properties, we consider only the corank 1 case.
Image Milnor number and 𝒜 e -codimension for maps between weighted homogeneous irreducible curves
2019
Abstract Let (X, 0) ⊂ (ℂ n , 0) be an irreducible weighted homogeneous singularity curve and let f : (X, 0) → (ℂ2, 0) be a finite map germ, one-to-one and weighted homogeneous with the same weights of (X, 0). We show that 𝒜 e -codim(X, f) = μI (f), where the 𝒜 e -codimension 𝒜 e -codim(X, f) is the minimum number of parameters in a versal deformation and μI (f) is the image Milnor number, i.e. the number of vanishing cycles in the image of a stabilization of f.
Stable Images and Discriminants
2020
We show that the discriminant/image of a stable perturbation of a germ of finite \(\mathcal {A}\)-codimension is a hypersurface with the homotopy type of a wedge of spheres in middle dimension, provided the target dimension does not exceed the source dimension by more than one. The number of spheres in the wedge is called the discriminant Milnor number/image Milnor number. We prove a lemma showing how to calculate this number, and show that when the target dimension does not exceed the source dimension, the discriminant Milnor number and the \(\mathcal {A}\)-codimension obey the “Milnor–Tjurina relation” familiar in the case of isolated hypersurface singularities. This relation remains conj…
Families of ICIS with constant total Milnor number
2021
We show that a family of isolated complete intersection singularities (ICIS) with constant total Milnor number has no coalescence of singularities. This extends a well-known result of Gabriélov, Lazzeri and Lê for hypersurfaces. We use A’Campo’s theorem to see that the Lefschetz number of the generic monodromy of the ICIS is zero when the ICIS is singular. We give a pair applications for families of functions on ICIS which extend also some known results for functions on a smooth variety.
